DSC00025.JPGThe students at HTMS will vote during homerooms and the winners will be announced by 3:00Pm. The elections will be held at Hewitt Trussville city schools. There are many candidates like Marquis. One of his quotes that he used is,” I’m not here for status; I’m here to represent, so vote Marquis as your vice president.” Also there are many other candidates like Jonathan A. who want to run for things like student council secretary.

There are many things to run for. There are things like vice president, treasurer, student council secretary, and president (etc.) Also Brian A. wants to be the next sergeant-At-Arms. Brian uses catchy phrases and pictures to persuade the students at HTMS to vote for him. We are going to have great candidates that run for the elections.

The Best Game Ever
The charity Basketball Game was a fantastic game. Excitement and laughter filled the room as the game when on. The game was held at HTMS gym and started at 6:30p.m. It held on February 8, 2008. The basketball players and the cheerleaders had to swap up, so the cheerleaders became

that made everyone laugh.
I interviewed Coach Brown about the charity basketball game and he gave me precise information. Three years ago he thought about how the students at HTMS could get involved with helping others. Mrs. Freeman and Coach Brown approached Dr. Williams with the idea of having the cheerleaders and girl's' basketball team play a game and to get the boys involved through cheering and dancing with the dance line. This year the girl’s basketball team made a great come back in the 4 Th quarter to pull out a "victory" of 33-31.
This year the money went to the Big Oak Ranch and everything went as planned during the charity basketball game. We had many teachers involved with the game. Mrs. Deal and Mrs. Butterworth worked on sponsorship. Mrs. Booker worked with the "cheerleaders" and coached the girl’s basketball team. Ms. Nichols and Mrs. Peck worked on the half-time show. Mrs. St. John had the ambassadors there working at the door and running the concession stand and the PE teachers set up the gym. Mr. Holmes had the band ready to play and Mrs. Carter had some choir members there to sing the National Anthem.

SCA Exposed

Hewitt Trussville High School

Did you know that Hewitt Trussville High School has a SCA? It is led by Mr. Stull and he is currently teaching at the HTHS. I emailed him and asked him a few questions about the SCA at HTHS. Mr. Stull has been the SCA sponsor for twelve years. Also he told me that the principal at the old junior high, Ms. Dennis, asked him to be the sponsor. He said that he really didn't know that much about Student Council at the time. Over the years, he has grown to love the amount of community service and charity work that SCA has the opportunity to do. He said that it allows students to become leaders. It provides them with the chance to create and implement fundraisers and other projects. It is a great learning experience that will benefit them in college and in life.
The Student Council meets every week on Tuesday mornings from 7:15 to 7:40. The SCA at HTHS also meets outside of the school at times to complete projects and any other activity that needs to be done. Ex. Delivering canned goods, preparing for a dance, etc. The SCA at HTHS has a President -Caitlin C., a Vice President - Matt C. and a Secretary- Sam B. I asked Mr. Stull why the SCA at the high school was so important and he told me that they are the link between the student body and the faculty/administration. He told me "our hope is to create memorable experiences for our students, faculty, and staff. But, mainly, our organization gives the students at Hewitt Trussville High School a voice."
The SCA at the high school sponsors a lot of different activities. They are in charge of the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen, the Homecoming Shirts, the Dress up Days, and the Powder Puff Football game. They organize the canned food drive, the Black out Ball, the Valentine's Auction, and the Legend's Basketball Game. They have teacher recognition projects, such as purchasing gifts for the faculty on their birthday. They provide donations for local needy families during the holidays. Student Council is always up to something he told me!! Without the Student Council there wouldn’t be any of this.

The Winter Dance was established by the Student Council Association. The Winter Dance was held in the HTMS gym on Friday, January 25. The sixth graders got the gym from 3:00- 5:00 p.m. The seventh and the eighth graders got the gym from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The dance had a D-J and a photographer. Tickets were sold January 22-25 for five dollars.
If you didn’t by a ticket then you got a chance to buy them at the door for seven dollars. The photographer there took photographs of you and your date if you paid for the picture. Also the D-J played songs recommended by the students. Two songs that were played were the Cupped Shuffle and the Cotton Eye Joe. The Student Council wanted to do something for the whole school and donate the money raised. The SCA wanted to have a dance since they weren't able to have a Homecoming Dance this year. They hoped to make both dances annual events!
The D-J’s name is Justin from Feel the Beat Entertainment. He was a great DJ and very interactive, the SCA likes to use them at their dances. The Dance was held by the Student Council. Without the teachers and administration, theses dances are impossible. Everything went great and as planned. The SCA thinks that everyone had a good time and made it home safely. The SCA hopes that the Winter Dance will be an accruing event every year.

Mrs. Lincoln

The Origin
Mrs. Lincoln is a teacher at Hewitt Trussville Middle School and teaches seventh grade. She has been at HTMS for about three years. She now teaches seventh grade Civics and geography. She told me that ever since the second grade her dreams were to be a teacher. She has been in the SCA for about three years. She told me that the SCA is the longest standing organization at HTMS and that the SCA has been here since she was a student here at HTMS.
Mrs. McGuyer is also a teacher at HTMS middle school. She teaches sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. In sixth grade Mrs. McGuyer teaches computer education. For the seventh and eighth graders she teaches computer application, newspaper, and movie making. She has been teaching for nine years and she has taught at Shades Valley High School and HTMS. She had two high school teachers that motivated her to become a teacher. Also she wanted to impress learning on her students when she became a teacher.
Without these teachers there would not be a Student Council Association at Hewitt Trussville Middle School. Mrs. Lincoln and Mrs. McGuyer take some time out of there day and plan for many school wide events. Without them there would not have been a school dance and the canned food drive. They work hard every Tuesday morning to establish this association. The SCA is going to be a great council this year thanks to Mrs. Lincoln and Mrs. McGuyer.
